Faculty Room Receives Facelift

The WSCC met and discussed the needs and concerns of the school community. After some discussion, the committee developed and distributed a staff survey. It was decided that the faculty room was in disarray and desperate for a facelift. The survey yielded many ideas, brought attention to WSCC, and welcomed a new committee member. Ms. Neuhaus, the Interior Design teacher, was eager to have her students participate in the redesign of the room.

The students went into the faculty room, took measurements, and the top three designs were selected. The WSCC met for a light lunch during the school day, and the different groups presented their ideas, color schemes, and action plans. It was amazing to see the fresh ideas: one group suggested high-top tables so that teachers could store their work bins underneath and work with a cleaner space. Another idea was to create separate spaces so that teachers could have privacy when making phone calls. Most valued was the addition of a coffee bar, allowing faculty to take a break without having to leave the building.

The committee voted on one of the color schemes and is now working on cleaning out the room. Two members of the committee have begun working with clubs and students to donate their time to help organize, clean, and label items for removal during the school’s month of kindness. The grant has helped pay for the paint and supplies, and we hope to have that done during the spring break so as not to disrupt the use of the room.

As we move forward, it is the intention of the WSCC to create a comfortable and functional workspace for the faculty and staff.
